The Malayalam Drishyam 3 released in May, and its ending has been public since then. When the Hindi version, Drishyam 3: The Conclusion, opened on 2 October, many expected the spoilers to hurt it. Instead it opened at ₹62 crore net, well above forecasts, and has become Ajay Devgn’s highest-grossing film.

Two films, one story
Jeethu Joseph’s Malayalam Drishyam 3, starring Mohanlal, was pushed from 2 April to 21 May 2026, Mohanlal’s birthday, The Hollywood Reporter India reported. It opened to ₹15.85 crore net in India across its language versions, and crossed ₹100 crore worldwide within days, according to Sacnilk figures reported by the Free Press Journal. Gulf News reported that it passed ₹330 crore worldwide within 30 days, and that it was set to stream on Prime Video from 18 June, with Tamil, Telugu and Kannada dubs.
The Hindi version was made alongside it. The Malayalam shoot wrapped in December 2025, and the Hindi version’s schedule began that month in Mumbai before moving to Goa, The Hollywood Reporter India reported in January. Abhishek Pathak directed it, with Ajay Devgn, Tabu and Shriya Saran returning.

The opening nobody forecast
Ormax Media, which forecasts opening-day collections, expected ₹45.8 crore net for the Hindi film. It made ₹62 crore. Ormax said the 2 October holiday added to the urgency to watch it early.
The figure was a big jump for Devgn. His previous best opening day was Singham Again in 2024 at ₹43.70 crore net, Business Today reported. Drishyam 3 then made ₹53.50 crore on its second day and finished its first week at ₹245.50 crore net.

Biggest of his career
On its tenth day the film crossed ₹300 crore net in India, Sacnilk reported, calling it the first film with Devgn as lead to reach that mark. Within nine days it had also passed Singham Again (₹372.41 crore) and Tanhaji (₹367.65 crore) worldwide to become his highest-grossing film, Business Today reported.
By 4 November, its 34th day, Sacnilk’s figures stood at ₹379.20 crore net and ₹454.10 crore gross in India, and ₹587.30 crore gross worldwide. These are trade estimates, not producers’ figures, but every tracker shows the same direction.

Why the spoilers did not matter
A thriller’s ending is supposed to be its selling point. Three things seem to have worked against that here.
First, the first two Hindi Drishyam films built a large audience of their own, and many of those viewers are unlikely to have watched a Malayalam film, even on streaming. Second, much of the pull of Drishyam is how Georgekutty, or Vijay Salgaonkar in Hindi, stays a step ahead of the police, not only the final twist. Third, the date. Ormax pointed to the 2 October holiday as a factor that made people want to watch it early.
It also helped that the gap was only four months. The film arrived while Drishyam was still being talked about, rather than years later.
What it says about remakes
Hindi remakes usually arrive years after the original. Drishyam 3 is a different model: the same story made by two teams close together, aimed at two different audiences. The Malayalam film did well in its market and then went to streaming. The Hindi film did far better in a bigger market, despite the overlap.
What to watch
The Hindi film is still in cinemas, adding small amounts each day. Watch where it finishes against the year’s other big Hindi hits, and whether other producers start making Hindi and regional versions of the same story at the same time instead of years apart.
